Week #3 Ask The Expert
Yes, I am the expert on cattle. Ask me anything from showing to
caring for cattle and I will have an answer for you. "How many stomachs
does a cow have?" Cattle have four stomachs the Rumen, Reticulum, Omasum
and Abomasum. This would be the reason why cattle have "cud" because
they have to regurgitate their food after going through every stomach. Next
question... "How many calves do cattle have at one time?" They are
able to have twins but sometimes they don’t survive. They are healthier having a
single calf. Last question... "What is a good way to show cattle?"
Well you enter the arena and set your heifer up. You keep their head high,
front two hooves parallel and the back left leg slightly in front of the right.
Then you have to do something called loining. It’s when you take the hook of
your show stick and lightly scratch the top middle of their back. That makes
them arch their back down so it’s flat.
